What the lawsuit claimed
The settlement came seven years after the class action lawsuit was filed accusing Clif Bar & Company, a subsidiary of Mondelez International, of misleading customers after the two products’ packaging showed claims that they were healthy.
The lawsuit pointed out that it contained as much as 37 percent of calories from added sugar.
A representative for Clif Bar or Mondelez International did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Earlier, the company denied the accusation but agreed to settle the lawsuit.
Under the settlement terms, customers can receive $5 for up to 30 bars, $10 for between 31 and 60 bars, and $15 for more than 60 bars. These payments are available regardless of whether consumers can provide proof of purchase.
Class members who provide proof of purchase can receive $15 for the first 60 bars. For additional bars with proof of purchase, class members can receive $0.25 per bar for a maximum total payment of $50.
